Work has commenced on site for this modern extension to an existing house in North Uist. The house currently sits on a site with a steep gradient towards the sea loch shore. The site gradient has been utilised within the design to create a two storey extension that is set into the hill. The top floor of the extension will tie through with the ground floor of the existing house and will feature a new master bedroom with large en suite bathroom and dressing room. The lower ground floor is accessed by way of a stairwell clad full height in structural glass and comprises a new living room and study. Floor to ceiling glazing looks over the loch and gives access to a balcony that is sheltered by the overhanging roof. The extension is joined to the existing house by a structural glass corridor which also features a natural stone clad wall. Externally the extension will be clad with natural stone that has been excavated from the site. Slot roof and floor glazing will wash natural light down the internal stone walls and allow natural light to filter down into the lower ground floor. Works are ongoing on site; follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
